The Sacred people of

Chiapas

The highlands of Chiapas have an invaluable material and spiritual cultural heritage; it is a place where various indigenous Tsotsil and Tseltal groups unite to preserve their native language and their customs expressing their multiculturalism. They are rooted in Mayan Ancestry.

The Tzotzil call themselves batsiI winik'otik, "true men" and the Tzeltals refer to themselves as winik atel, "working men"; both speak the batsil k'op, or true or legitimate language. The word Tzotzil derives from sots'il winik, which means "bat man." It is said that the ancestors of the Zinacantecos found a bat in those lands and took it for God.

San Cristobal de las Casas

San Cristobal de Las Casas was one of the first cities founded by the Spanish in 1528 in Mexico. It is a town with great ethnic, cultural, social and environmental diversity. It is located in the region known as the "Altos de Chiapas" where approximately one million Indigenous people live; representing 15% of the population with the lowest rate of development. Besides the Spanish language, two indigenous languages, Tseltal and Tsotsil are spoken by 44% of the population. We will be walking through its cobbled streets, churches throughout town.

The Blue Lotus, as seen in ancient plant relations in Egypt and the Mayan Temples, is a delicate flower that holds the power to bring us in communion with the divine. It is seen as an aphrodisiac and an inhibitor of lucid dreaming. Within our collective body, the lotus opens up our senses and our energetic points (Chakras) enough to receive from the spirit.

Our evening together involves a ritual of this exalted plant with anointment oils, blue lotus tea, and the option of smoke. As our senses open in our container, we dive into a sound bath to ground down the divine messages. An oil necklace will be included in this event.
